On the 26th November 2014 Gillian Sharpe brought her wonderful quilts to show us. She is a prolific maker with great talent as you can see from the examples shown here and she was generous and expansive about her techniques. In spite of a degree in visual studies at Norwich University of the Arts she concluded that her real passion was still stitch.
Her pieces ranged from traditional pieced quilts to experimental hangings using such techniques as piecing, appliqué, chenille, shibori, machine and hand quilting and stitch. Her output was prolific and the quilts she brought for members to look at were wide ranging in terms of colour and starting inspirations. The photos could not do justice to the intricacy of the stitch and it was inspiring to be able to handle the pieces and see how textured and dimensional they were.
She will be exhibiting at the Forum in Norwich with Breckland Artists from 29th June to 5th July and at Cley 15 from 2nd July to 2nd August, she can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
